[Kind of a] Travelogue [post].
I’m flying back to England today. I am currently in the business lounge at Manila airport, surrounded by people far richer than myself, eating free food and wondering if 9:52am is too early for free Scotch.

Travelogue. Day 15 & 16. 19/8/11 - 20/8/11.
On this day we visited my mother’s childhood home a short drive from San Pedro where some relatives were still living there. This of course meant waiting around while my mother caught up with old friends and relations, which I don’t really mind since she hasn’t seen them in years, and I’m not going to be selfish and complain about being bored while she is happy and having fun. After we got back...

Travelogue: Everything That is Marring my...
I can’t quite remember what my expectations were for this trip but they definitely haven’t been met. I guess I had some kind of romanticised that it would be a long overdue return to the place of my birth, but it really isn’t. This is no homecoming; I am a tourist. As I mentioned previously, being half-white means that I am a lot more pale than most people here and get stared at quite a bit. I...

Travelogue Day 9 - Travelling to Legazpi. 13/8/11.
[I have had basically no internet these past few days so all these posts are quite a few days behind the times]
But anyway, on Saturday I ended up watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes with my mother, sister and ate Michelle. I was glad we went to see it as it was the only film out at the moment I really wanted to see, out here at least. The scenes rampaging apes reminded me of the footage...

Travelogue: Random musings on Filipino TV
A few times on this trip so far I’ve found myself sitting by the fan, trying to cool down whilst watching TV. I must reiterate that I know next to no Tagalog, so most of the time I’m thinking ‘what the bloody hell is going on here?’ However, I think if I understood it I wouldn’t really want to watch it, which is strange. I never really watch TV much in England, especially programs like game shows....

Travelogue. Day 3. 7/8/11.
[Because of my limited internet access these posts will be sporadic and behind the times].
Two days ago (7th) I visited the Greenhill shopping centre with relatives. It was like a huge indoor market, bigger than the one I know well in Oxford but less atmospheric (with far fewer grocers and butchers, and far more stalls selling used electronics). I’m kind of awkward with the stall owners calling...
